1.) be sure you have a good reason for sending a press release. A new product, an event, if your company recently received recognition for something…you get the point.

2.) make sure your press release is targeted for a specific demographic. Then make sure the demographic you are targeting is consistent with the audience receiving the press release.

3.) format:

-typed

-double spaced

-contact person’s name, title, company, address &phone number in the upper right-hand corner.

– 1-2 pages

4.) header and subtitle

5.) a dateline (like you see in news articles) ex: Bow, NH, April 26, 2013 which leads into the first sentence

6.) basic: who, what, when, where, why and how.
