In the Classroom: Nutrition is Tops for Ashland (wickedlocal.com)

With the new, modified school meal regulations, some schools are going to have to make quite a few changes!

Schools are required to increase the amounts of fruits and vegetables they offer, whole grains must be offered with every school meal, and legumes (chickpeas, beans) must be offered as well.

Milk must be skim or 1% and the flavor must be “fat-free”

The standards prevent schools from carrying items that are over 200 calories per item, items can not have more than 35% of the calories from sugar (unless it’s natural sugar from fruit), and no item can have more than 200 grams of sodium.

If only we could all impose these regulations on ourselves!
