First off congratulations on taking the first step to create a blog!
You basically have 2 options when starting a blog.
The first option to create a blog:
A free blog from Blogger or WordPress.
This is not the option I recommend. I say this for 2 reasons. First, you can’t “brand” it. Whatever you choose as your “web address”, it’s still going to have WordPress before it. So it’d look like this: www.wordpress.com/blog/meetcasey
When you purchase a domain name, you own it, and frankly it looks more professional: www.meetcasey.com
Second, if you are thinking about selling products or putting advertising on your site, you can NOT do that with a free blog- you HAVE to have your blog or website “hosted” at BlueHost, GoDaddy, etc.
I have tried various web hosting companies, and my favorite is Blue Host. It’s cheap (approx $4/month) and the customer service is awesome- I utilized it a LOT when I first got started, lol.
Next, you’ll have to figure out what you want your website to be called.
What you choose for a URL will depend on the purpose behind your blog. If it is just a personal blog, it’s best if it has something to do with your name, and it’s easy. It’s easy to mis-type and you don’t want people to do that when entering your URL:
You get the idea.
If it’s a blog for a business, you want to associate it with, obviously, your business. In most cases, you can set a blog up to look like a website, but only have one little section as an actual “blogging” section
Once you have your account set up with Blue Host, you’ll log-in and click “domains” and this is where you can search to make sure the web address you want is available. If it is, you will purchase it for approx $12. This is something that will need to be renewed yearly.
Hopefully this helps you get started! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need more guidance!
Here’s to life, love, happiness, health and success!
